Richard L. Price III, MD, PhD Board-Eligible Neurological Surgeon Fellowship-Trained Spine Surgeon
Dr. Richard Price joined the Spine Nevada team after completing fellowship training in Complex and Minimally Invasive Spine at Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle. Fellowship training is the highest level of medical education in the U.S.
Dr. Price earned his undergraduate degree with Cum Laude honors and a Ph.D. in neuro-oncology at The Ohio State University in Columbus. Before starting medical school he was awarded a prestigious J William Fulbright Scholarship to study oncologyat the Spanish National Cancer Center in Madrid, Spain. Dr. Price also obtained his medical degree and PhD from The Ohio State University. He completed a residency in Neurological Surgery at Washington University in St Louis, where he served as Chief Resident. While in residency, Dr. Price also performed neurosurgery internationally while working at a hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
Dr. Price specializes in all aspects of spine surgery, including adult degenerative conditions, congenital deformities, spine trauma, spine tumors, and deformity correction, including anterior, lateral, and posterior spinal approaches. In addition, he has experience and interest in peripheral nerve disorders, head trauma, and brain tumors. He has published many articles on brain cancer and spine surgery outcomes. Dr. Price is board-eligible in Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Price and the Spine Nevada team exhaust non-surgical treatment options for spine conditions before surgical intervention. If surgery is necessary, Dr. Price is trained in the latest minimally invasive spine surgery techniques and technology that reduce the length of the incision, tissue damage, infection rates, the time in the hospital, and the time needed for recovery. Many patients can have their surgery in the morning and be home later the same day to begin healing.
Dr. Price is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (SMISS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons the American Medical Association, the American Physician Scientist Association, and the Washoe County Medical Society.
His honors and awards include the SMISS Young Surgeon Grant in 2019 and 2021, second place in the Neurosurgical Top Gun Competition in 2019, and the Medical Scientist Training Program Leadership and Academic Achievement Award.
In his spare time, Dr. Price enjoys exploring the Reno/Tahoe area with his fiancé and also his Great Pyrenees dog, Niya. He is an avid world traveler. His hobbies include skiing, scuba diving, backpacking, cooking, and golf.
